  5. Beautiful Rainbow Lorikeet parents feeding two demanding juveniles in tree near my study. Their high-pitched whining is now annoying me :)
  6. Just back from a weekend away, doing a plant survey in the Otway NP. Brilliant park. Knees are creaking. I need a nana-nap.
  7. Gave old boots the flick and bought new ones. Picture on box suggests I'll be able to climb mountains now! Excellent.
  8. Bought a new binoculars today - a huge improvement on my previous (broken i.e. dropped) set. Very sharp and more fun.

  13. Just back from Eco Book Group. We discussed O'connor and Lines' book 'Overloading Australia' - the debate on population issues is fraught.
  14. My Hakea laurina has been the scene of a parrot feeding frenzy. Dozens of empty seed cases skirt the shrub. Gang-gangs maybe?
  15. I'm back in Victoria. Most commonly seen birds on our trip? Magpies, galahs, magpie-larks and willie wagtails.
  16. An old tape (yes, a tape) in the car has John Williamson's song 'Camel Train to Yamba'. We love it, so we had to go to Yamba too. Top spot.
  17. We explored Byron Bay today and decided we never need to go again. The backpackers and the rich and famous can have it.
  18. "I'll take you to see the sea-eagles nest," our uncle said. Off we went, and found a lovely family of Ospeys on a headland at Hervey Bay.
  19. Took a photo of the marina at Hervey Bay and didn't notice the rainbow bee-eaters flying by until I put the photo up on the laptop.
  20. We've turned the car around and started the journey south. Will we beat the orioles, woodswallows and flycatchers I've seen at Airlie?
