  1. Partisanship preventing progress so Admin just bypassing Congress, but House educ jobs bill this week shows some don't like being excluded.
  2. @arotherham Agree. Major ESEA revamp will be nearly impossible in 2010 given today's partisanship and mid-term elections. 2011 a better bet.
  3. @educationweek I know I sound like an anti-rock-n-roll dad from the 60s (I'm not), but kids these days sure are different that we were.
  4. White House jobs summit is good idea, but not seeing much focus on educ and training for current and future workers, which are fundamental.
  5. Dept of Ed's "confidential" ESEA PowerPoint is now circulating. How likely is it that Congress will pass a comprehensive ESEA law next year?
  6. @bigswifty Thanks for circulating. With today's partisanship, is it possible to pass a comprehensive ESEA bill? Should I be more optimistic?
  7. @cqpolitics It's sick that we keep giving reality show attention seekers exactly what they want. Is there nothing more important going on?
  8. @educationweek Dept of Ed will have big challenge indeed getting states on same page (or more likely on same screen) for common assessments.
  9. @ProTradeLiberal Not likely to see major Obama trade speech any time soon with Congressional partisanship so high. World leaving US behind.
  10. @bigswifty Rotherham's ESEA reauth piece is spot on, but partisanship will prevent meaningful action, which is why Admin is going it alone.
  11. @educationgadfly Sorry I missed your event. I think true common standards are a way off, given the tweaking states can do, but it's starting
  12. Repubs rejoicing, Dems shrugging, pointing out that nothing unusual happened in yesterday's off-year elections. Life in politics goes on.
  13. Still no real word on when Senate will take up student loan / community college bill. House passed President's bill in Sept. Any ideas?
  14. @cqpolitics Check your facts. De-registering doesn't mean you quit! Maybe some just don't need to continue to be be registered.
  15. @OpenSecretsDC After the scandals and new Admin's focus, maybe some who didn't need to be registered in the first place are dropping out.
  16. @cqpolitics What I find surprising about the study showing Fox News is the most ideological network is that 14% say it is "mostly liberal!"
  17. @ProTradeLiberal Facts don't matter. Many in Congress oppose all trade, so W.H., with bigger fish to fry, isn't pushing up hill too hard.
  18. @ProTradeLiberal The pros at USTR want to complete Doha Round, but ongoing Congressional opposition to trade in general is holding all back.
  19. @volsbuzztap The Vols are back! Yes, a loss is a loss, but the performances against Florida and Alabama certainly help with recruiting.
  20. @NatEdAssoc This ban on teacher use of social media is yet another example of administrators afraid of technology. This fear hurts students.
