  2. why is young hairdresser of the year on BBC3 happening inside the Nostromo from 'Alien'? And why in God's name am I watching?

  4. Family dinner tonight at Clay Oven on Morningside Road. I lost a bet that the Tutsis (in Malawi) were actually called the Tutsi-Wutsis...
  5. Kudos to David Mitchell for tonight's 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue' - sang lyrics of 'Whiter Shade of Pale' to Muppet Show tune. Excellent.
  6. Charity dinner last night at Prestonfield House was a memorable affair. Pity I can't recall much of it.
  7. At the Kirkcaldy gig, Val and I auctioned off the chance to be a character in our next books. Got me thinking: I'll have to write again...
  8. Meantime I'm playing dinner-party host tonight. A group of ten 'won' me at a charity auction. Time to splash on some Brut...
  9. ...or maybe The Complaints start to investgate Rebus or Siobhan or both. A lot of maybes because as of now I really don't know...
  10. Okay, MAYBE Rebus comes back, either in his own story (working cold cases) or as a foil to Siobhan. Maybe SHE gets her own story...
  11. In Kirkcaldy I gigged with Val McDermid at a fundraiser for Raith Rovers, and met many fans who want to know when Rebus is coming back....
  12. In Manchester I bought Hudson Mohawke and Hey Negrita CDs, ate a Chinese meal and met many graphic novel fans.
  13. In London I met up with a pal who's moving to Jordan (the country); bought Tom Waits live CD; met many graphic novel fans...
  14. I'm in London tomorrow, Manchester Thursday,and Friday I'm at a Raith Rovers charity night in Kirkcaldy with Val McDermid.
  15. Informed by partner: it's my side of the bed now.
  16. Number 1 son left attic velux open on Sunday. Result: water dripping into bedroom tonight. Luckily, my partner's side of the bed.
  17. Sadly for Jo, didn't get a huge laugh. Maybe try Alexander McCall Smith next time, eh?
  18. Surprised by a namecheck on Jo Caulfield's BBC Radio 4 show tonight, especially one that had me 'entering her' while she was in Edinburgh...
  19. ...plus I only fell asleep for 2mins in the middle. Far as I'm concerned, that's four and a half stars right there...
  20. Watched Grand Hotel last night. Garbo magnificently overwrought, and a shocking denouement. Plus funny and moving.
