  1. Great essay, tho I think empathy 4 minorities (not "literacy") is a stronger PRECIOUS connection. RT @KarinaLongworth: http://bit.ly/5AO9pG
  2. @nictate I don't dislike UP IN THE AIR, mind you. I just don't "buy" it exactly. And yes, Reitman is an incredibly shrewd industry director.
  3. @ADuralde Not saying films can only be made by those who've lived the subject. But there's something superficial & glib about UP IN THE AIR.
  4. In other words, why would a young director tackle this project, as opposed to someone with the life experience of Clooney's character?
  5. A colleague just articulated why UP IN THE AIR doesn't resonate with me: "The movie is directed by Anna Kendrick's character."
  6. Not that I'm complaining about our winners. If you haven't already, see SUMMER HOURS! #LAFilmCritics
  7. Some key consensus between New York (http://bit.ly/5ywlwb) and @LAFilmCritics (http://bit.ly/8xqNdn). Wish we'd awarded IN THE LOOP, too.
  8. Stumped by how to handle this whole best-of-decade thing. I submitted a list to IndieWire (http://bit.ly/8GlgsK) but want to rewatch faves.
  9. @SharedDarkness It becomes a more innocuous "They talk like TV channels I don't watch" in the movie.
  10. My fave line from PRECIOUS appears slightly different in the script: "These homo ladies talk like TV channels I don't watch."
  11. PRECIOUS has its flaws, sure, but watching it a second time, I realize I'm looking at a classic, a movie that will hold up in 10 years.
  12. PRECIOUS (Lee Daniels, 2009), DVD - *** 1/2 [second viewing]
  13. OK, haters, guess which Sundance movie I'm rewatching right now. Hint: "My favorite color is fluorescent beige."
  14. @ballywick In past years, the jury at Palm Springs fest had to sit thru nearly all the entries. I've seen about a dozen of this year's tho.
  15. We interrupt all this movie tweeting to bring you a look at the @AudreyKawasaki show that opened yesterday in New York: http://bit.ly/7RIlUC
  16. For the record, I'm the only @LAFCA critic (apart from the three who nominated it) who saw our Indie/Experimental winner, THE ANCHORAGE.
  17. The problem with having an animation critic manning the white board during @LAFCA voting: "de Pauley" for "Indalo." Guess the actor/film.
  18. Well done. Tom Hardy 4 best actor baby! RT @kristapley: Giving Bronson another look.
  19. @LAFilmCritics I wish there were more of our online "brethren" in LAFCA. @OFCS
  20. RT @MattDentler: And the first big premiere of BNAT 09 is... "Shutter Island." Wish I was there.
