  1. The archive of the British Pteridological Society (that's ferns) arrived today. Thank you to Clare, Paddy, Dan, Paul, Ding for all the help
  2. Just been to a great lecture by Dr Bob Callow on the life of Charles Darwin and the publication of the Origin of Species - brilliant!
  3. I'm pondering Christmas trees and their eco ins and outs
  4. I'm working on the Dove versus Hawk game for the Manchester Museum's Evolution Revolution Big Saturday tomorrow. ..lots of laminating!
  5. Phew! managed to move all those boxes (medicinal plants). The art session, Draw to Explore, is underway & seems to be going well.
  6. I'm clearing the benches of the herbarium for an art session this afternoon. There's a many boxes to move up and down the spiral staircase.
  7. Writing an article for the proceedings of the Go Between conference about artists working in museums.
  8. I'm helping a student identify mosses today.
  9. Working on Mammal gallery redevelopment. Thinking about Orangutans and Palm Oil plantations.
  10. Working on Manchester Museum's Evolution Revolution Big Saturday on the 21st Nov. I'll do a hawk-dove game - evolutionary stable strategies
  11. Looking at data from historic specimens with Paddy one of our vols. It suggests that plants are flowering earlier due to climate change.
  12. Good morning. Just checking my e-mails then I'm going to work some more on themes for the new Mammals gallery. I'll continue with Gorillas
  13. Session good. We discussed Manchester Darwin links including Marie Stopes, William Herbert, Lydia Becker, Elizabeth Gaskell & James Audubon
  14. I'm off to the 1st of 5 training sessions this afternoon for our Museum Comes to You Darwin outreach programme - should be interesting
  15. Researching themes for the new Mammals gallery redevelopment - looking at the issues surrounding coltan mining and the impact on gorillas
  16. Two volunteers herbarium today, Mat and Ray - entering data from collection of flowering plants from outside Europe circa 160,000 specimens
