  1. submitted my NPS research permit application; done for today, but still have to write a workshop abstract and do 2 HICSS reviews tomorrow.
  2. just not getting a whole lot done today.
  3. finished drafting my research permit application for fieldwork at Acadia National Park and Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area.
  4. @kmakice uh-oh - hope it's not so!
  5. as if the IRB wasn't enough, I have to apply for a research permit from the National Parks Service. This should be interesting...
  6. CSCW rebuttal is submitted, travel plans for the Michigan trek are established, and I'm crossing things off my to-do list right and left.
  7. hubby doing the car camping equipment check, discovered we have a 300w power inverter. I can charge my laptop (and phone) on the road!
  8. @nikasmith I have an antique Singer and a vintage Singer, but I only sew when truly compelled. Usually simpler is better with machines.
  9. searching the Dissertations database is fun: 171 dissertations on OSS, but only about 20 on eScience and 19 on the Appalachian Trail.
  10. funny how expensive things get when every ounce counts; at least the shipping is pretty cheap!
  11. finally finishing up some work that I never thought would end. Hurray for finishing something!
  12. @Manas Hope you recover quick!
  13. @tkjudge there's a variety of low-key fun in the 'Cuse; CNYFarmer's Market is amazing. My best timing is Aug 8/9 or 15/16, between trips.
  14. finished my first interview; trying to guess how much longer it will take to transcribe than it took to record. I'm rusty, so probably 3x.
  15. having a hard time getting things moving today; back to trying to work with all manner of ill-tempered technologies.
  16. just love being told "It's just Perl", as though that somehow makes it easy or accessible to me. No, actually, it's just frustrating.
  17. adding up expected fieldwork expenses: savings from camping (instead of hotels) is enough to buy ultralight tent, sleep gear, AND backpack!
  18. taking a break from travel planning to pick up the CSA goods. This week we start getting our egg share.
  19. mixed outcomes from meeting: feel really good about the journal article we're writing, but even more anxious about the candidacy exam.
  20. trying to work out travel logistics - not my idea of fun at all.
