4matters

  1. To get youngsters excited about learning first ask yourself, “Why do these children need to know this?” Answering "For the test." won't do.
  2. Creating a rubric to help teachers/trainers design relevant project work for their learners. The work learners do must be relevant to them.
  3. Reading Elmore, 09 "Teach to the instructional core: the relationship between the teacher and the student in the "presence of content."
  4. The Soloist teaches compassion is the key virtue. Love yes, but always limited, love leads us to compassion, to celebrating diversity.
  5. Movie: The Sololist. Gather the family, young and teens and see it togehter. It is in On Demand. As the Irish say, "It tore out my heart."
  6. Finishing the stats of the Flesch Reading Ease Scale for the Readers Theatre in the final book in the 4MAT Middle School Literature Series.
  7. I start train-the-trainer 4MAT tomorrow here in our Chicago office, and do so for the rest of the week. Good group, looking forward to it.
  8. Principals: Take the Learning Type Measure and the Leadership Behavior Inventory and I bet you are stretching around the cycle as a leader.
  9. New Research: Principals using 4MAT cycle = success: community minded, fine curricula programs, mentoring and pushing excellence.

  13. 4MAT for Biology ready. Nine conceptual wheels comprise the entire course, all conceptualized, 4MAT cycles filled with creative techniques.
  14. Some research on the 4MAT Algebra 1 course: Are more students learning in this course: Yes= 85%. "We get how to use it in the real world."
  15. A concept is a significant idea that connects to other concepts and has meaning for students. Yet teachers continue to teach only topics.
  16. How many teachers begin teaching by engaging students in experiences to answer the question Why? If that were so, such success it would be!
  17. Never begin ANY speech without engaging the audience personally: a question answered to a partner, dilemma to solve, something you clarify.
  18. Added the The Red Kayak, an IRA Children's Choice to the Midle Sch 4MAT unit literacy set. Chose "Bad mistakes and Secrecy" as the Concept.
