If you look at 目 sideways and round off the edges it looks like an eye. Not to be confused with 日 which only has one line in it.

New Radical is 目 as usual we'll be working up to more complicated 漢字 that incorporate this radical.

Learning the more complicated kanji can be difficult, try to write them down and break them up into simpler Kanji Stories.
