If you're in California, visit the 1001 inventions exhibition. It's open daily 10am - 5pm, free, until March 11th 2012.

Rigel is short for 'Rigel al-Jabbar' ("Foot of the Great One", i.e. Orion). It's a blue supergiant, 85,000 brighter than the sun.

This is interesting: Betelgeuse also from Arabic: 'ibt al-Jowzaa' -> bitil-jowz translated as 'armpit of the central one' (i.e. Orion)
